How to Connect Xbox and Xbox 360 Game Consoles to a Wireless Router

How to Connect Xbox and Xbox 360 Game Consoles to a Wireless Router

  1. Connect the appropriate wireless network adapter to the console. On the Xbox, a Wi-Fi adapter that connects to the Ethernet port (sometimes also called a wireless network bridge must be used. Alternatively, the Xbox 360 is also designed to work with certain Wi-Fi game adapters that connect to a USB port.
  2. Turn on the console and navigate to the wireless settings screen. On the Xbox, the menu path is "Settings -> Network Settings -> Advanced -> Wireless -> Settings" On the Xbox 360, the menu path is "System -> Network Settings -> Edit Settings."
  3. Set the SSID (network name) on the Xbox to match that of the wireless router. If your wireless router has enabled SSID broadcast, the SSID name should appear pre-selected on the Xbox display. Otherwise, select the "Specify Unlisted Network" option and enter the SSID there.
  4. Specify "Infrastructure" as the Network Mode. (Infrastructure is the mode used by wireless routers.)
  5. Set the Security Type to match that of the wireless router. If your router uses WPA encryption and the type of adapter connected to the Xbox does not support WPA, you will need to change your router settings to use WEP encryption instead.

6.  Save your settings and verify the network is functional.

On the Xbox, the Wireless Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made with the wireless router, and the Connect Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made through the Internet to Xbox Live.

On the Xbox 360, use the “Test Xbox Live Connection” option instead.

Tips:

Even when your wireless connection between the Xbox and the router is working perfectly, you may still experience difficulty connecting to Xbox Live. These issues can be caused by the quality of your Internet connection or the firewall and Network Address Translation (NAT) settings of your wireless router. Additional troubleshooting may be required in these areas to achieve reliable Xbox Live connections.

How to Replace a PSP Screen

How to Replace a PSP Screen

1.      Remove all accessories from your PSP. This includes games and memory sticks.

2.      Remove the cover of your PSP's analog stick. Pull the circular portion of the stick away from the PSP, and it will slide off.

3.      Place your PSP face down on a clean, flat surface.

4.      Remove the battery cover from the back of the system. Take out the battery and place it aside.

5.      Locate the five screws on the back of the PSP. There is one screw in each corner, with the screw in the bottom-left corner slightly obscured by the warranty sticker. A fifth screw is located on the bottom of the PSP in the center, next to a sticker with a bar code and serial number on it.

6.      Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove each screw from the back of the PSP. Do not tear off the warranty sticker covering the fourth screw---instead, fold it back just enough so you can access the screw. If the warranty sticker covering the screw is damaged, it will void your PSP's warranty.

7.      Lift the back of the PSP off the faceplate. Put the faceplate aside and place the PSP on its back.

8.      Use a flat-head screwdriver to push out the clips holding the PSP's screen in place. There are two clips on each end of the screen. Insert the flat-head screwdriver into the area between the clip and the metal perimeter of the screen. Tilt the screwdriver toward the center of the PSP, which will cause the clips to push outward and release the screen.

9.      Lift the top of the PSP screen and bring it forward. This will reveal two brown cables bonded to the PSP screen that attaches the screen to the motherboard.

10.  Use your flat-head screwdriver to push up the clasps connecting the cables to the motherboard. Gently slide the cables out and fully detach the PSP screen.

11.  Position the replacement screen so it is face down and resting on the bottom portion of the PSP.

12.  Plug the brown cables that are bonded to your new PSP screen into the same clasps you removed the cables for the cracked screen from. Use your flat-head screwdriver to lift the clasps up as you put the cables in place.

13.  Fit the screen into place and push the four clips back in, securing the new PSP screen. You can push the clips back into place with your finger until they fit snugly around the screen.

14.  Reattach the faceplate and place the battery back into the system. Power the console on, and the screen should light up.

How to Replace Your Broken PSP Joystick

How to Replace the Joystick Unit on Your PSP

1. Removing the Cover

You need a small ‘Phillips’ (cross) screwdriver and ideally an anti-static dust brush (available at PC stores) to replace your joystick on your PSP. Removing the cover of your PSP involves removing 5 small screws and the first three are fairly obvious. On the back of your case with the top facing away from you there are two screw holes, one toward the bottom of the case and one at the top right hand corner beneath the ‘L’ shoulder button. Next up, on the bottom of the PSP is a little silver screw that keeps the front cover attached. Unscrew each of these and keep them somewhere safe.

Removing the battery reveals a couple more screws and one or two that are hidden. The screws that we need to remove are the left hand black one and there is one in the bottom left hand corner underneath the sticker. Be warned though this is a dead giveaway that the warranty is voided when this sticker has been tampered with. Rather than trying to peal this off simply locate the screw using the screwdriver and remove as indicated by the picture below.

Flip the PSP back over and if necessary remove the stick by prying it upwards with a screwdriver though it should just pull upwards. The PSP cover should now pry apart, taking care not to touch the screen and internals of the PSP.

2. Removing the Joystick

After removing the PSP cover, turn the system over revealing the underside of the buttons. There are two screws holding the joystick unit in place and these also need to be removed to free the unit. The joystick can now be removed and replaced with the new unit remembering to remove the stick beforehand. Make certain the ‘washer’ is in place when you install the unit and then replace the two screws, ensuring the joystick is secure.

3. Reassemble

It’s a good idea at this stage to remove any specs of dust or debris with the brush that may have landed of the screen or underside of the cover. Then carefully replace the cover and replace the screws that were removed in stage one of the process. Good luck.
